Kastijder

In Ancient Egyptian religion, Medjed is a god mentioned in the Book of the Dead. His ghost-like portrayal in illustrations on the Greenfield papyrus earned him popularity in modern Japanese culture, including as a character in video games and anime [ ]

Spell 17 of the Book of the Dead mentions, amongst many other obscure gods, one Medjed (meaning "The Smiter"), in the following line:

"I know the name of that Smiter among them, who belongs to the House of Osiris, who shoots with his eye, yet is unseen."...  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medjed

I translated "smiter" to "Kastijder" (+- punisher with connotations of physical pain). Intrigued by the simplicity of the drawing, the fact that it looked like how we imagine phantoms to look like (a blanket with two holes), the fact it had become a Japanese meme, that he was unseen (how can they draw him?), ... I started drawing my own versions of that character.  And then one more. Between approx. 13/5/2021 en 27/5/2021, I drew +- 80 versions. Almost obsessively. They were drawn on cheap sketching paper with a cheap Japanese ink brush. Quick and dirty.

For a couple of months, I had no idea what to do with this staple of drawings.  First I considered making posters of them, containing several "medjeds". But which ones? How many? How to make them fit? Finding no answers, and not wanting to choose, it came to me that I could display them all at once if they were contained in a book.  The book is therefore not a display or catalogue of art but rather the artwork itself.
